John Tesh and Oprah: Kitty Kelley book alleges romance soured by 'social pressure'

Author // D. Scriber

Move over stodgy ol' Stedman Graham. Biographer Kitty Kelley has dredged up some juicy gossipy nuggets for her new book about talk show host Oprah Winfrey and the best parts on romance speak about a possible relationship with John Tesh. The unauthorized biography alleges that Oprah and the former "Entertainment Tonight" host/singer hooked up as lovers while sharing an apartment back in the day -- in the 1970s while each was working a television job in Nashville, Tennessee. The New York Daily News, citing an excerpt from the book, states that Tesh, now 57, left Winfrey, now 56, due to intense "social pressure" surrounding their inter-racial relationship. "[He] couldn't take it anymore," an unnamed source close to Tesh told Kelley for the book. During the 10th anniversary of Winfrey's show, Winfrey spoke about the relationship, but claimed she and Tesh only shared a "platonic" date out.

Of course now Winfrey and Tesh have the opportunity to respond to the allegation. If true, it might make a good theme for a show. If false, pity Kitty Kelley.

There's also speculation about Winfrey's relationship with friend Gayle King. "I know people are expecting me to 'out' her," Kelley told USA Today. "But I think she's just asexual. She's poured all of her energies into her career."
