Empire State Building jumper: 'We are all deeply distressed by this news'
Yale University student Cameron Dabaghi, from Austin, Texas, was identified as the man who jumped off the Empire State Building around 6:15 p.m. last night. Dabaghi went to the 86th floor of the building in New York City and, according to witnesses in numerous news reports, started running toward the barrier on the observation deck in order to leap clear of it. Dabaghi's body landed with a "boom" near a Bank of America branch, a witness told New York's Daily News, adding that Dabaghi's "body was shattered and his sneakers were scattered on the sidewalk." Dabaghi was 21.
The Yale Daily News Dean Mary Miller said in an e-mail to the college "We are all deeply distressed by this news."
