Yesterday a strange thing happened on the floor of the U.S. Senate. A senator stood up and personally defended Laurent Gbagbo, the Ivory Coast president that many human rights organizations around the world have identified as a tyrant. Sen. James Inhofe, aided by poster-sized photos of Gbagbo and one of Gbagbo's two wives, Simone, told Congress, “This is the happy face of President Gbagbo. This is the face I know.” The photo shown by the Oklahoma Republican was of a wide-grinning and formerly-all-powerful Gbagbo.
