We went on strike in Spain and what did we achieve? Nothing.

Author // Sancho in Spain

strike_in_spainGIBRALTAR -- Last month, I joined many other people in Spain and supported the general strike. Although I have reservations about strikes, a subject to which I will return, I did so because whilst I accept that strong measures are required to solve the financial crisis, making the weak and vulnerable pay for the sins of the bankers is not the solution -- nor is it just.

WikiWhoops! Wikileaks claims hundreds of organizations wrongly report that it will release hundreds of thousands of Iraq war documents

Author // Robert Weller

Did tea party bodyguards clamp down on freedom of the press in public school?

Author // D. Scriber

joemillerTony Hopfinger, the editor of the Alaska Dispatch, was handcuffed and placed under some kind of citizens arrest by bodyguards for Joe Miller, a candidate for U.S. Senate and darling of the conservative Tea Party anti-tax movement. Hopfinger's alleged "crime" following a Miller town hall meeting was that he was trespassing, though he was in the halls of a public school attempting to ask Miller questions. Moreover, Miller bodyguards threatened that they would detain other journalists who were attempting to ask questions of Hopfinger while in the custody of Miller's bodyguards, according to various reports, which noted some were subjected to "chest bumps" and "shoving matches (via the Anchorage Daily News).

AFC West: The worst division in the NFL?

Author // A.J. Vicens

There are always surprises in the NFL season and 2010 has been no exception. The Minnesota Vikings - even with the addition of enigmatic wide receiver Randy Moss - may have pulled out a win over the hapless Dallas Cowboys over the weekend, but as one of the pre-season Super Bowl favorites, the team has definite issues. Brett Favre is showing his age on the field, with limp, lackluster throws. Off the field, Favre is dealing with Genitalsgate, a freaky sideshow that has to be a drag on the team.

The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints sit at a respectable 4-2, but the offense that was one of the most dynamic in years in 2009 isn't all that impressive in 2010 despite the 31-6 shellacking of the Buccaneers. The Indianapolis Colts have finally started a season without going undefeated, but after some early-season foibles, the Colts and Peyton Manning seem to be settling in.
