Tim Tebow might be focus of Super Bowl anti-abortion ad

God and Football

tebow_3421Tim Tebow, the star quarterback for the Florida Gators, isn't slated to appear in any commercials during Super Bowl XLIV in February. But his mother just might. And it won't be in one of those Chunky Soup commercials. Pam Tebow will get seriously religious and talk about her miracle Heisman-winning son in an anti-abortion ad for Focus on the Family, according to a Colorado newsweekly.

Gary Schneeberger, the Colorado Springs-based evangelical group's vice president for media relations, won't say one way or the other. He offered only a "no comment," to dscriber.

But Rich Tosches, a columnist for the Colorado Springs Independent, writes that Jim Daly, Focus' new chief, mentioned plans for the Super Bowl ad at a recent evangelical conference.

The Tebows have been open about their anti-abortion views. Pam Tebow had amoebic dysentery while pregnant with Tebow abroad in the Philippines. Her doctors suggested an abortion, fearing drugs they used damaged the fetus. But out popped a healthy Tim, equipped with an arm like a slingshot.

Schneeberger told Tosches, “If there is a Super Bowl commercial from Focus on the Family, I guess you’ll just have to wait and see it during the Super Bowl. I can say Tim Tebow does not appear in any Focus on the Family ad.” Schneeberger omitted mention of Pam Tebow, however.

CBS, of course, would have to approve. Last year, NBC, which aired the Super Bowl, spiked an anti-abortion ad by a Catholic group.
