Parody of Sarah Palin's 'Going Rogue' cover dupes even Fox News

Rouge Rogues

going_rogueIt appears some very savvy folks at OR publishing are capitalizing on the new Sarah Palin book, "Going Rogue: An American Life."

They have mocked up a similar-looking parody of Palin's bestseller, "Going Rouge: An American Nightmare," replete with dark, cloud-filled skies and lightning bolts from Hell. Some folks -- more specifically, some conservatives -- have predictably mistaken the "Rouge" book for the real thing, purchasing copies of the left-leaning, un-rosy critique of Palin. Count Fox News among the fooled, actually using the "Going Rouge" cover in one of their segments citing the real Palin book.

Embarrassingly for Fox News, the mistake was made as an anchor raised questions about the motives of another news organization, The Associated Press, for assigning a team of reporters to analyze Palin's work (see the video here).

Here's some promo language from "Going Rouge," which was edited by two senior editors at The Nation magazine: "Sarah Palin has many faces: hockey mom, fundamentalist Christian, sex symbol, Republican ideologue, fashion icon, “maverick” populist. But, above all, Palin has become one thing: an American obsession that just won’t go away. Edited by two senior editors at The Nation magazine, this sharp, smart, up-to-the-minute book examines Palin’s quirky origins in Wasilla, Alaska, her spectacular rise to the effective leadership of the Republican Party, and the nightmarish prospect of her continuing to dominate the nation’s political scene."

Fox, which placed the cover on the air, wasn't the only news organization to be duped. USA Today issued a correction, noting it used the wrong cover with a review.
