Eggo waffle shortage gives edge to pancakes, French toast
By Greg Campbell  l Published: Wednesday, November 18 2009 09:55

Anyone who is used to starting the day by popping a couple Eggos in the toaster should start hoarding their frozen delights: America is suffering a shortage of Kellogg's popular frozen waffles, a breakfast staple from coast to coast.

Severe September storms in Georgia knocked out Kellogg's waffle factory and it has yet to be repaired.

First of all: Who knew Georgia was the frozen waffle capital of the United States?

Secondly: What will the nation's school kids do for breakfast once they leggo their last Eggo?

Kellogg's is reportedly working around the clock to restore the nation's Eggo supply, but estimates are that it could be as late as mid-2010 before grocery freezers are restocked to pre-flood levels.

Meanwhile, dscriber's Breakfast Editors suggest taking action and limiting Eggo intake to no more than one a day. Yes, it means temporarily going without the joy of stacking a few of those golden, delicious disks with heavy layers of butter and syrup between them, but the situation is dire.

Official statement from the Kellogg's Web site:

Question:

I have not been able to find Eggo® waffles in the store. When will they be available again?

Answer:

Kellogg Company recently experienced supply constraints caused by flood damage at our bakery in Atlanta. In addition, we've been making significant equipment enhancements and repairs in our largest waffle bakery. Unfortunately, this is taking longer than anticipated.
The Eggo™ team is working around the clock to bring everyone's favorite waffles back to store shelves as quickly as possible. We hope to regain full distribution of Eggo products by the middle of 2010. This is a top priority for Kellogg Company.
