Skyscraper Boats

oasis_of_the_seas_1All 16 decks of the Oasis of the Seas, a massive cruise ship that's as big as several apartment buildings side-by-side, docked safely in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, last night and is preparing to embark on its maiden voyage early next month. The ship is about five times as large as the Titanic, can hold 5,400 guests at double occupancy, features 2,700 staterooms, and is staffed by more than 2,000 crew members. The vessel is so freaking massive that it even has it's own districts, including a Central Park, Boardwalk, Royal Promenade, Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place, and Youth Zone.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain recently wrote on his blog that just prior to the ship's arrival at it's home at Port Everglades after 14 days at sea, it hit a peak speed of 24 knots, which is less than 30 miles per hour. But this thing doesn't exactly turn on a dime as the above picture shows.

The ship also boasts an open-air atrium, a handcrafted carousel, 28 multilevel urban-style loft suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, an amphitheater that serves as a pool by day, and an array of "epicurean innovations that allow for new culinary experiences each day of a guest's cruise vacation."

Crazy.
