James Mitchell dead at 89; Walmart clown commercial a big hit; Gary Coleman arrested for domestic violence
By Greg Campbell  l Published: Monday, January 25 2010 06:55

Your day according to Google: James Mitchell, the actor who played that icy-hearted bastard Palmer Cortlandt on TV's All My Children since 1979, died of heart failure at age 89 Friday. His longtime partner Albert Wolsky told the BBC that Mitchell loved playing the villain. "The meaner he could be, the happier he was," he said.

The other big news over the weekend, of course, was that the New Orleans Saints will face the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl after the New York Jets and Brett Farve's Minnesota Vikings both saw defeats. The games spawned tangential searches for such things as "Bourbon Street Web cam" so that Saints fans around the country could watch the revelry in New Orleans live, as well as one for "Walmart clown commercial," which debuted during the playoffs and featured a welcome foray into the realm of creativity and humor for the retail giant. Normally, Walmart commercials are as funny as a bowl of bran flakes, but this one shines and gives those of us who aren't Saints or Colts fans a reminder that there will at least be creative commercials to look forward to during the Super Bowl.

An Ethiopian Airlines plane with about 90 people on board crashed in the ocean shortly after departure from Beirut, today is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day (here's some fun advice on how to celebrate) and a bumbling woman taking an art appreciation class stumbled and fell into Picaso's "The Actor," creating a six-inch rip in the rare Rose Period piece that was painted in 1904-05.

Finally, wee actor and massive train wreck Gary Coleman was arrested in Utah on domestic violence charges. This comes just days after he was hospitalized for suffering a seizure. No word on the alleged victim of the violence, but Coleman and his wife Shannon Price have had a rocky relationship over the years, one that culminated on an appearance on Divorce Court in 2008.
