Snow not only hits hard in Colorado, Europe gripped by extreme cold snap

As a storm blankets Colorado's Rocky Mountains with a thick layer of snow, the extreme cold in eastern Europe has killed at least 169 people. Worse, Europe is bracing itself for yet another big snowstorm that will this weekend strike Italy, including Rome, and countries on the other side of the Adriatic Sea, into western Russia.
The worst of the storm, according to Accuweather.com, will hit the Dinarides Mountains near the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. That makes news in the region worse. At least 11,000 people are cut off from supplies because roads are impassable in remote areas in Serbia's mountains, according to news reports. Emergency crews are in the process of responding, including rescue operations involving helicopters in Serbia and Bosnia. The coming snowstorm is expected to hamper those efforts.

Up to a foot of snow (30 cm) is expected in Belgrade, Serbia, and Budapest, Hungary.

Almost as much is expected in Romania, Ukraine, southern Belarus and western Russia, where so many lives have been lost due to the brutal cold.

Forecasters say the potential exists for Romania and Bulgaria to see a repeat of last week's blizzard. AccuWeather.com Expert Senior Meteorologist Dale Mohler is also concerned for heavy rainfall south of the snow: "[The storm] is a classic setup for 5 to 6 inches (13 to 15 cm) of rain to inundate Antalya, Turkey," he said.
