Birthing pains |

This week, a billboard emblazoned with the question "Where's the birth certificate?" went up at I-70 and Kipling Street, where it's expected to be viewed by 300,000 motorists a day. World Net Daily, an online news site that, according to its own description, acts as a robust watchdog over government, started the billboard campaign. It solicits donations to erect such billboards across the country, with some already visible in high-profile locations in Louisiana and Las Vegas, among others. The Denver billboard is Colorado's first, and is a result of the efforts of Wolf and popular KHOW-radio morning personality Peter Boyles. According to a WND article, Wolf heard Boyles discussing questions birthers have raised about Obama's qualifications to hold office and decided to donate his billboard space to help increase awareness. Wolf also owns billboards in Wyoming and Montana and plans to spread the message there as well. Birthers are demanding that Obama produce the so-called "long-form" birth certificate that they suspect either doesn't exist or would show a delay between his birth and the filing date. If the latter case proves true, it would sow more seeds of suspicion that Obama was born outside the United States -- most birthers believe he was born in Kenya -- and would therefore be unqualified to serve as president. Twice, the director of Hawaii's Department of Health has issued statements claiming he's reviewed documents proving Obama was born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961, and has released a certified copy of his Certificate of Live Birth. Several lawsuits have been filed over the case of the birth certificate, including one pending in U.S. District Court in California, which is scheduled for trial early next year. You forgot about the birthers didn't you? Caught up in the G-20 protests, the healthcare debate, "You lie"-gate and myriad other distractions, it slipped your mind that a group of single-minded citizens aren't convinced Barack Obama is qualified to be President of the United States. But a new billboard erected in Denver -- the first of a few planned for some Rocky Mountain states by car dealer Phil Wolf -- is here to remind you that the birthers haven't flagged in their determination to force Obama to prove he's a natural-born U.S. citizen.
